Mallory Schaub

I am responsible for the teaching and learning support pole and a university pedagogy advisor. This pole is attached to the division of training and students. My main mission is to manage and develop the activities of the pole. My team works for the development of university education by supporting teachers, program directors and students.

I started my teaching career at the FPSE (UNIGE) through practical work in experimental psychology and some ex-cathedra teaching in cognitive psychology (visual perception). For 3 years, I supervised the work of students who were taking the cognitive psychology courses at EPFL within the SHS program. My longest teaching experience was my 8 years of teaching a seminar-course on research methodology in human sciences at the HEP Lausanne (master level). There I was able to experiment, in ex-cathedra classes, with interactive teaching methods (quiz, interactive voting, think pair share, collaborative wall) in large groups (160 students), with online exams (Moodle test), as well as with a project-based approach in seminars of 30 people leading students to carry out a research project from A to Z and to communicate/critique it among peers.

As far as large group teaching is concerned, I am fond of all the methods that allow students to be activated in front of the subject matter, for this reason I like to experiment and discover all the interactive voting platforms (Votamatic, Kahoot, Padlet, etc.). I also have a predilection for the project-based approach, which allows students to take up a challenge and bring a solution to it. Authenticity, realism, complexity, the definition of the project allows to challenge the students while making them responsible. It is also a real challenge for the teacher, who must provide sufficient and appropriate guidance to develop the students’ autonomy.

Today, my projects are essentially focused on accompanying and supporting the development of university teaching, the valorisation of teaching activities and their visibility. My main concerns are to ensure that teachers can strengthen their skills and be recognized for this.
